THE A22 is closed both ways near Ashurstwood due to a "serious" single vehicle crash in which a car collided with a tree.
The road is closed and there is queueing traffic due to an accident on the A22 both ways between Wall Hill Road and Hammerwood Road.
It is affecting traffic travelling between East Grinstead and Wych Cross.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services were called to a report of a serious collision involving a single vehicle which has left the road and hit a tree on the A22 north of Forest Row at 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 28.
“The road will remain closed for a few hours while we carry out recovery and investigation work.”
Hammerwood Road and Wall Hill Road are open for those seeking an alternative route.
