THE NHS is calling for any 16 or 17 year old who has not had their Covid-19 vaccine yet to come forward.

It is now even easier for people aged 16 and 17 to get the jab as they can now use the national online booking system.

They can now use the website nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119 to book an appointment, as well as the walk in sessions available.

Bookings for people in this age group have been opened as the vaccination programme tries to vaccinate as many people as possible ahead of winter.

More than half of 16 and 17 year olds have now received their vaccination in Sussex and around 60 per cent of young people in England are already vaccinated.

The online booking service offers an additional way for people aged 16 and 17 to get a single shot of Pfizer, in line with Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice.

A spokesman for the Sussex Covid-19 Vaccination Programme said: “It’s a huge positive that young people now have the added convenience of being able to book a jab online, via the national booking system.

“It’s quick and easy, you just need to add your name, age and post code and then choose a timeslot for your vaccination.

“Alternatively if you’d rather have the flexibility of being able to arrive at your own time, walk-in vaccinations are taking place in lots of locations across Sussex for people aged 16-17 including in Brighton and Chichester and Eastbourne.

“You can check the dates and locations of these on the Sussex Health and Care Partnership website.”

Last week, September 20, the NHS in Sussex also began vaccinating children aged 12 to 15, after the government accepted the UK Chief Medical Officers’ recommendation to extend the vaccine offer to this age group.

Like the flu and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, Covid jabs are being delivered by local school age immunisation services who are working with schools to identify all eligible children.
