A DEFIBRILLATOR was damaged and its contents strewn on the ground in a "despicable act."
The device at the pavilion in the King George V car park in Allington Road in Newick, near Uckfield, was found broken on Saturday morning (October 1).
An active investigation is underway by police, with several lines of enquiry being pursued.
It is believed that the incident took place at around 7.35pm on Friday evening (September 30).
A police spokesman said: "This is a despicable act, which could endanger lives, and we need anyone who can help to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1235 of 01/10.
Defibrillators are used to help those suffering from cardiac arrest, with calls for the devices to be supplied to football clubs around the UK following the collapse of Denmark footballer Christian Eriksen during his nation's opening fixture against Finland at Euro 2020.
