BOXES of slaughtered animal remains are being dumped around the county, prompting fears unregulated meat could be finding its way into the food chain.

The discarded remains of pigs have been founded boxed up at locations around the Crowborough and Eirdge,  some with the word “bones” written on the top.

Wealden District Council says its Street Scene Team is becoming “increasingly concerned” that potentially unregulated pork products are finding their way into the human food chain.

The Council says it is working with the rural crime team at Sussex Police in an effort to identity the source.

A council spokesman said: “Following a series of unpleasant fly tips around the Crowborough and Eridge area, our Street Scene Team are increasingly concerned that potentially unregulated pork products are finding their way into the human food chain.

“The slaughtered remains of pigs have been fly tipped on various occasions over the last two months.
