THE DUCHESS of Sussex has been branded an “amazing leader” by Elton John’s husband David Furnish.
The filmmaker praised his fellow Canadian after working closely together during the making of the new animated Netflix series Pearl.
David, who has been in a relationship with pop superstar Elton John since 1993, said Meghan Markle is a “fantastic collaborator” and an “amazing leader” while speaking at the Hello! Inspiration Awards.
Meghan is the executive producer of the new animated programme, which will portray the adventures of a 12-year-old girl inspired by influential women from history.
Following the announcement of the Netflix show, the Duchess said in a statement: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.
“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”
David, will also serve as an executive producer, said: “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and I are deeply passionate about bringing the inspirational and positive stories of extraordinary women from around the world to a global audience of all ages.
“The team collaborating on the series are first class, and Netflix are the perfect partner.”
After the announcement, Meghan dropped a hint that the series may be based - at least in part - on her own childhood, by naming both the show and its title character Pearl, the origin meaning of her name.
According to BabyNames.com, the name Meghan is “primarily a female name of Welsh origin that means Pearl”.
The name Meghan originates in Wales and is traditionally spelt Megan.
It originally came from the Greek name Margaret, derived from the word margarites, which translates as pearl.
Elton John and David both attended Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018.
The Rocket Man singer was also reportedly once friends with the Duke of Sussex’s mother Princess Diana.
