THE A27 has reopened after a weekend of maintenance work.

The road was closed westbound between Lancing and Shoreham from 8pm on Friday, October 8.

It officially reopened at 6am on Monday, October 11.

Waterproofing material and the joints in a bridge which carries the AA27 over the River Adur Viaduct near Shoreham were due to be replaced, according to Highways England.

The maintenance work was set to take place over the weekends of September 11/12 and 18/19, but was rescheduled due to a number of events taking place in the area.

A statement from Highways England said the events, along with restrictions to the rail services, would have had “too great an impact on our customers”.

The first half of the maintenance work took place from September 24 to 27, which saw the closure of the A27 eastbound carriageway from Manor Road roundabout to the A283 Shoreham junction.

The weekend's work saw the closure of the A27 westbound carriageway from the A283 Shoreham junction to the Manor Road roundabout.

During the closures, a signed diversion was in place via the A259.
