A POPULAR firework display at a cricket ground has been cancelled for a second year running, this time due to renovations being made.

The firework display at The 1st Central County Ground has been cancelled due to work being done on the outfield of the ground.

The event, which is hosted by Sussex CCC, is used to raise money for local charities. In 2019, recipients of the money were the Martlets Hospice and the Sussex Cricket Foundation.

It was cancelled last year due to the covid-19 pandemic. Two years ago, 7,000 people packed out the cricket ground in Eaton Road, Hove to watch the dazzling display light up the skies.

Commercial director Mark Judges said: "Unfortunately, the Sussex Cricket Fireworks Night will not take place in 2021.

"Extensive renovations to the outfield at The 1st Central County Ground mean that it isn't possible to host the event this year.

"The ever-popular display will return in 2022 to light up the night sky and raise thousands of pounds for local charities."
