AN ENTREPRENEUR has opened a second location after finding a demand for hair salons outside of the city due to the Covid crisis.

Samuel Chapman already owns a salon in George Street, Hove, and has opened a second in Haywards Heath this week.

He said that Haywards Heath was the ideal place for his second location due to lifestyle changes throughout Covid.

Samuel also found that many clients who moved to West Sussex from Hove in lockdown have followed him there.

He said: "I chose Haywards Heath because it's a growing town, a lot of our clients are professional women and we feel there are a lot of them in Haywards Heath, especially since the pandemic a lot of people have moved down to Sussex from London and there's lots of commuters of course as well.

"We wanted to expand into a new salon and then the pandemic hit. But during the pandemic it actually became even more important because we wanted something positive at the end of it, something to look forward to.

"I want to be apart of the community here because it's growing so quickly."

The new location of the salon is in the heart of the town and aims to bring in a range of clients and hopes to create an "intimate and personal" experience.

Samuel said: "I want people to come in here and switch off, let us take care of them and make sure they have a nice place to come to. We don't have a reception desk because we want clients to come in and let us come to them.

"They can come in and sit down on one of our lovely chairs or sofas and our receptionist, Amy, will come over with an iPad and sign them in and deal with their requests.

"We hope it will be a nice welcoming and open atmosphere."

One of the salon's unique selling points is that it caters to people, men and women, who go through hair loss and provides hair replacement services for them to have a full head of hair again.

The new salon is made up of eight stations and divided up with shelving to create a more "intimate and personal experience".

Samuel said: "I've done everything I could do to make it as sustainable as possible, down to the bamboo flooring and the bulbs in the lights. I think that's really important for businesses."

The next step is to expand the training services provided at the salon, and Samuel says he is looking to offer professional qualifications to apprentices.

"The next step is training, we want our apprentices to get the best they can get and we want to be able to offer individual sessions for people who aren't employed by one of the salons, we want to be a place where anyone can come here and learn about hairdressing in training sessions and eventually we'll look at doing our own NVQ qualifications," he said.
