RETIREMENT village residents have raised more than £2,500 through quizzes, barbecues and line dancing events.

Residents at Durrants Village in Faygate have raised £2,546 after a series of fundraising events in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley.

After Covid-19 restrictions were lifted earlier this year, the social committee at the retirement village wasted no time in planning a number of events, with all donations going to St Catherine’s Hospice.

The hospice provides hospice care and support people living with terminal illnesses.

Events included line dancing, coffee mornings, barbecues, wine and cheese nights and quizzes.

Residents also enjoyed musical performances from the Durrants Village Jazz Quartet, Wimbledon Palais Ukulele Band and vintage vocal harmony group Angel Delights.

Inspired Villages, the later living operator behind Durrants, matched the amount raised from the events, increasing the total donation to £5,092.

Residents recently presented the cheque to Felicity Parsons, fundraiser on the supporter development team at St Catherine’s Hospice.

Felicity said: “We’re very grateful to everyone at Durrants and Inspired Villages for their support.

“Without people like them supporting the hospice, we wouldn’t be able to offer the care we provide for our patients and their families.”

Resident Lindsay Hiley-Jones, who participated in a number of events, said: “The feedback from residents that came to our events has been very positive.

“I would like to thank all the committee for their hard work and contributions to a very successful cheque presentation to St Catherine’s Hospice.”

Set amongst 30-acres of private parkland with its own lake, Durrants Village is home to 171 two and three-bedroom cottages and two-bedroom apartments.

Central facilities include a gym, relaxation pool, lake pavilion, croquet lawn and library.
