A NEWLY opened food pantry has received a much-needed grant to allow it to provide chilled goods as part of its fight against food poverty.

Specialist local charity, The Budding Foundation, has given Burgess Hill Pantry a grant to enable them to purchase two commercial fridges.

Founded by Clive Gravett, the Sussex charity funds projects which help to improve the lives of children.

Clive said: "We are pleased to have provided a grant for Burgess Hill Pantry to acquire the fridges.

"What a fantastic service it now provides for those suffering food poverty, and with such a great team of volunteers on hand to make it all happen."

The Pantry opened at the end of September and for a weekly membership of just £4 it provides a selection of food up to £20, to top-up the weekly shop.

As well as the range of fresh fruit and veg, store cupboard favourites and bread, the service can now extend to include dairy products and other chilled items.

The pantry is open Tuesday: 10am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-4pm and Thursday: 10am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-4pm in 25-29 The Martlets, Burgess Hill, RH15 9NN.
