ONE person has been taken to hospital after a blaze that started at a fuse box under the stairs ripped through a home in Eastbourne.

Fire crews from across the county, including engines from Eastbourne, Bexhill, Heathfield and Pevensey, attended the blaze in Timberley Road, Eastbourne at 5.17pm.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

Three people were handed over to the care of the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "At 5.17pm yesterday, we were called to attend a fire at a residential property on Timberly Road, Eastbourne.

"Firefighters from Eastbourne, Pevensey, Bexhill, Hailsham and Heathfield attended.

"The fire had emanated from a fuse box under the stairs.

"Crews used six breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"Three people were handed over in to the care of Secamb."

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: "There were three patients at the scene, one of which was taken to Eastbourne District General with minor injuries."
