THE PUBLIC are being offered the chance to have their say on new flood risk management plans.

The Environment Agency launched a consultation on its flood risk management plans (FRMPs) on Friday October 22.

Brighton and Hove City Council are calling on the public to have their say on the plans, which will help form actions taken to manage flood risk in the city until 2027.

The consultation will run until January 21, 2022.

The strategic plans contain measures for managing significant flood risk across Brighton and Hove.

They are put together by the Environment Agency, working closely with local authorities like Brighton and Hove City Council and other risk management authorities.

The consultation was launched after Brighton and Hove was identified as having areas at risk of flooding from surface water, which runs off from roads and pavements, in 2017.

The Environment Agency and local authorities with flood risk areas have a legal duty to consult on FRMPs.

According to the council, the consultation will cover all the draft second cycle FRMPs in England.

While the public are able to comment on any of the FRMPs, council is urging the public to share their views on the Brighton and Hove content in the South East River Basin District Plan.
