A MUSICIAN is set to release a new album featuring a song about the insecurities caused by having body hair.

Brighton-based signer Yumi And The Weather’s newest track Howl is due to be released on November 19.

The song, which is part of her upcoming 2022 album, is an energetic garage rock anthem with an important message.

Yumi And The Weather, real name Ruby Taylor, said the song documents her exploration of natural body hair, the insecurities which surround it and the power it can provide.

“Writing this song was an opportunity to reflect on how something so natural can create so many insecurities, while also giving us the power to control it to suit our needs and desires,” she said.

“Growing up, I was occasionally teased and made to feel insecure about my body hair – by both men and women.

“It created this urge to get rid of every hair in sight in order to feel confident, but it now feels like we live in a time where it’s accepted however we choose to have it.”

Ruby said Howl, which was recorded at Yumislavia Studios in Brighton, is ultimately a celebration of body hair.

“It’s nice, and means it’s not such a big deal to me anymore if I don’t get rid of my moustache as soon as it appears,” she added.

The multi-instrumentalist and vocalist performed and mixed the track by herself.

Since her introduction to the music scene eight years ago with her debut EP All We Can, Ruby has primarily toured with British Sea Power.

She has also performed at a number of festivals, including Green Man and Shambala.

One of the tracks on her self-titled debut album also featured on the BBC hit drama series Normal People.
