A DRIVER has been caught doing 135mph on the A27 - one of three people stopped for speeding in a single hour.

In 60 minutes on Wednesday, the three were clocked at 94mph, 96mph and 135mph on the A27 between Chichester and Emsworth.

They were stopped by the Sussex Roads Policing Unit who were conducting speed enforcement checks.

The person speeding at 135mph was reported for dangerous driving and excess speed by police.

He will face a mandatory ban and possible prison sentence.

The other two drivers were reported for excess speed.

A Sussex Roads Policing Unit spokesman said the high speeds recorded by officers were “very shocking”.

“These speeds are completely unacceptable, and the drivers involved put themselves and other road users in significant danger,” he said.

“This stretch of road is very dark, unlit and there have been several fatal road traffic collisions on this road over the last few years.

“On a daily basis we also attend broken down vehicles in the live lane and debris in the carriageway.”
