SUSSEX Police have issued a warning to people driving without insurance.

Motorists who are caught without insurance could be fined £600 and given six points on their licence.

It is illegal to drive a vehicle on a road or in a public place without at least third party insurance.

The police also have the power to seize, and in some cases, destroy the vehicle that is uninsured.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Don't risk driving without insurance.

"If you're caught driving a vehicle you're not insured to drive you could face a fixed penalty of £300 and six penalty points.

"If the case then goes to court you could get an unlimited fine and face disqualification from driving."

The warning from the police has come after Sussex Safe Roads Partnership tweeted a message reminding people that even if they have fully comprehensive insurance, they may not be insured to drive any other vehicle.
