TWO men have been arrested after claiming to be in possession of explosives.

Police were called to a property in Brighton after receiving a call from the member of the public claiming to have explosives and firearms.

Officers attended the property in Elm Grove at 6.55am on Tuesday, November 16, and engaged with two men, aged 40 and 49.

The men were arrested on suspicion of making malicious communications and for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

However, no weapons were recovered by police at the property, according to police.

Both men remain in police custody.

The incident comes two days an explosion outside Liverpool Women's Hospital on Remembrance Sunday.

Taxi driver David Perry survived the blast, but his passenger Emad Al Swealmeen was killed when a homemade bomb exploded shortly before 11am.

The man, who is believed to have manufactured and brought the device into the taxi, died at the scene

Police said the motivation for the attack was unclear, but it had been declared as a terrorist incident.
