A MAN has been fined £100 for continuing to run a mobile barbershop during lockdown.

Police saw Kamal Kasim continuing to trade from his van in Wickhurst Square, Broadbridge Heath, near Horsham, on December 31, 2020, while the country was in lockdown.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates’ Court to breaching tier four coronavirus restrictions by modifying his van as a barber’s shop and providing such a service in a public place.

Kasim, of Denne Road, Horsham, was fined £100 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £34 and costs of £55.

Sussex was brought under tier four restrictions on December 23 last year in response to a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases, and the emergence of the Delta variant.

People in tier four areas were told they could not leave or be outside their home or garden without a “reasonable excuse".

All non-essential business, including hairdressers and barbershops, were ordered to close.
