A BEST dressed dog show is taking place with the chance for the most glamorous pooch to win special Christmas prizes donated by local businesses.

The free show, on Thursday December 2, is encouraging people to bring their dogs along in costume for the chance to win a range of prizes.

Visit Lewes is hosting the festive dog show outside Lewes Castle from 6pm and judging begins at 6.15pm with all dogs are welcome to enter. The event is part of Lewes's late night shopping.

Prizes include collars, leads, dog food, treats and toys, which are all donated by local businesses Hound of Lewes, Cliffe Vets and Pets Corner.

Helen Browning-Smith, tourist and arts manager for Lewes District Council, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of four-legged festive friends at our dog show - the more the merrier.

“We’ve got lots of prizes, kindly donated by local businesses – just right for your dog’s Christmas stocking!”

Dog owners are asked to keep their dogs on leads and clean up after them. The central roads in Lewes will be closed from 5pm on the 2nd December, and organisers, Visit Lewes, encourage visitors to travel on foot or use public transport.
