BBC presenter Dan Walker has said “people are furious that I’m still dancing” as he remained in Strictly for another week.

The TV star, 44, and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova landed at the bottom of the leaderboard after they performed a Charleston to Good Morning from Singing’ in the Rain on Saturday night.

But it was Mcfly frontman Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden, who were joint bottom of the leader board alongside Dan, who ended up being sent home on Sunday night.

Dan, who grew up in Crawley, said he knows people are “angry” that he is still in Strictly, but that he also receives thousands of messages of support.

He tweeted: “I’m well aware that some people are furious that I’m still dancing, and that’s fine.

“I have never posted any of the thousands of positive messages we get every single week, but in the interests of balance, thank you to everyone who sends stuff like this.

“See you next week.”

Dan shared screenshot of “lovely” messages he has received from fans.

One young fan wrote that the BBC Breakfast presenter, who is 6ft 6in, had helped them to “embrace” their height.

They wrote: “I just wanted to message you to say I think you’re incredible. I’m very inspired by you.

“As a tall 16-year-old I have always felt very self-conscious about my height but seeing you on Strictly has inspired me to embrace height because it is a good think and a gift.

“Thank you, Dan.”

Another fan wrote: “My stepson got married yesterday and I never dance at weddings, I don’t drink either so there is never any drunk dancing.

“However, yesterday I challenged you as an inspiration and dance the night away.

“My other son was like, ‘Dad, where have you got those moves from?’

“I loved it.”

On Saturday night’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing, presenter Tilly Ramsay climbed to the top of the leader board with a perfect score of 40.

The social media star, 20, faced elimination last Saturday, but was saved by the judges.

Tilly and her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin proved to the judges they were right to keep them in the competition after they performed their couple’s choice dance to Revolting Children from Matilda.
