A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of assault this evening after armed police and dog units were called to a flat.

Police were initially called at 3.15pm to a flat in Shelley Road, Worthing, due to concerns about the behaviour and welfare of a man in one of the flats.

Officers made contact with the man in the flat this afternoon, also stating that the area had been made safe and confirmed nobody has been injured.

South East Coast Ambulance Service was waiting outside the cordon.

Police have since entered the flat at 7.35pm and arrested the 59-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 3.15pm on Monday, November 22, police were called to a flat in Shelley Road, Worthing, due to concerns about the behaviour and welfare of a man there.

“The immediate area has been secured to ensure public safety and nobody has been injured. There is not believed to be anyone else in the flat and officers have made contact with the man.”

“At 7.35pm officers entered the flat and safely arrested the 59-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.”
