THE CITY’S most loved Christmas traditions have been revealed.

According to a survey, listening to Christmas music has been named as Brighton residents’ favourite festive ritual.

More than a quarter (29.03 per cent) of people in the city named listening to Christmas songs as their favourite activity.

The survey by Moonpig revealed that spending time with family was Brighton's second most loved Christmas tradition, with 19.35 per cent of respondents choosing it.

In third place was exchanging gifts, followed by preparing Christmas dinner and eating Christmas dinner.

Only 12.9 per cent of people named watching festive movies as one of their favourite traditions – the same amount who chose putting up and decorating the Christmas tree and writing and second Christmas cards.

In ninth place is wrapping Christmas presents, while playing board games or puzzles in tenth.

However, Father Christmas could go hungry this year as putting food out for Santa was one of the least popular Christmas traditions with less than four per cent of participants saying they leave a snack out for Saint Nick.

The old-age tradition of kissing under the mistletoe is also slowly disappearing, with just above two per cent of people saying they still enjoy the gesture.

The beloved Santa Bus is also back in Brighton and Hove after a one-year hiatus.

The bus will be touring the streets of for 19 nights, but the way Santa and his helpers collect charitable donations is changing.

For the first time in 17 years, the Santa Bus workers will no longer be knocking on your front door.

The public are still encouraged to go outside and wave to Father Christmas, but donations must be made through GoFundMe, delivered to one of the 40 Santa Bus collection points or put in one of the helpers' buckets.

The Santa Bus tour of the city began on Friday in the Goldstone and Downs Park area and will finish on Tuesday, December 21, in Moulsecoomb.

Brighton also recently turned on its Christmas lights and has unveiled a new range of street art-themed lights.

The new lights, in North Street and Western Road, feature artwork designed by Brighton street artists including Bintley, Mowgli and Sinna One.
