THE FAMILY of a young doctor who was horrifically injured when her jealous ex-boyfriend dosed her in acid are raising money to pay for specialist treatment.

Rym Alaoui continues to be treated for severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms following the callous attack, which left her unable to see out of her right eye.

Her former partner Milad Rouf, 25, disguised himself as a woman before throwing sulphuric acid over Rym when she answered her door at her Brighton home.

Since the horrific crime, she has been through multiple surgeries including including skin grafts to her neck and chest and operations on her eye.

Her family are now trying to raised £60,000 to afford expert care for Rym, who will need "many more" operations in the coming months.

Writing on Gofundme, Rym's sister Alya Alaoui said: "Her injuries have turned out to be more serious than we expected at the time, and the full treatment, unfortunately, cannot be offered only by the NHS.

"Rym has suffered severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms. She’s still unable to see out of her right eye. So far, she’s had 7 operations including skin grafts to her neck and chest, and operations to her eye.

"Her doctors have said that she'll need many more over the coming months and years.

"The cost of this all is estimated to be over £60,000. This includes a reconstruction of her neck, specialised laser therapy for scarring and surgical needling.

"I appreciate this is a really large sum of money, and I would be eternally grateful for anything you could give to help."

Rym ended her relationship with Rouf before moving to Brighton where she worked as a junior doctor at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Rouf knocked on her door in Steine Gardens at 4.20pm on May 20.

He showed his ex-girlfriend a note before throwing acid in her face as she looked down to read it.

She was taken from her flat to the Royal Sussex Hospital, less that 1 km away, where she was treated by colleagues.

Alya added: "Rym’s modest savings, having been an NHS junior doctor for only 10 months after her graduation, have been depleted. Our parents have been the only financial support and continue to cover her medical needs and domestic expenses.

"However, as a family, our funds are running low and we would really appreciate any help that we could get to give my sister her life back.

"Rym has always worked extremely hard to fulfil her dream to be a doctor and help people. Everyone who knows her knows how genuinely kind, loving and caring she is. We want to give her every chance to get back to a normal life and continue with her work."

Rouf appeared at Lewes Crown Court in August and admitted carrying out the horrific attack on the doorstep of her Brighton flat.

He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and using sulphuric acid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or disable at an earlier hearing.

Rouf was sentenced to 11 years in custody with an extended sentence of another four years.

He will serve at least three quarters of the 11 years in custody before being release on licence.

Rym's family previously opened a crowdfunder, which received £2,000.

They are now appealing for further help.

Alya added: "I first opened this page on the day after the attack and closed it five days afterwards.

"We were incredibly thankful, as a family, for the £2,000 that was raised. We were hopeful that this would be sufficient.

"However, six months on, we have a clearer view of Rym’s current and future medical requirements which is why I am opening a donation page again."
