A TEENAGER challenged an Olympic gold medallist to a Rubik’s cube race as part of a charity fundraiser.

Tyler Turner attended the event alongside his father as part of his bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The fundraiser, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Felbridge hotel at Gatwick Airport, helped raised more than £16,500 for the Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity.

As CEO of Sussex-based marketing agency Creative Pod, the headline sponsor for the fundraiser, the 14-year-old’s father Matt Turner invited his son to volunteer at the event.

Alongside fulfilling the volunteer module of his DofE award entry, Tyler also showed off his incredible skills with a Rubik's cube.

He went head-to-head with special guest speaker and Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson in a race to see who could finish the 3D puzzle first.

But to make things harder for the teenager, he completed four simultaneously while the six-time Olympic javelin thrower and heptathlete completed one.

Donating money if they list, other attendees also challenged Tyler throughout the night with the promise of double their money if they beat him.

Tyler finished the night undefeated and helped raised £450 for Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity.

His father Matt said: “After a challenging year for the Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity, it was wonderful to see local businesses coming together to challenge Tyler and support the charity whilst having some fun in the process.

“I know Tyler was excited to go up against an Olympic gold medallist as well.”

Hosted by Aaron James, the event took place on the November 5.

The event, which also featured a raffle and an auction, raised a total of £16,500.
