A CHRISTMAS market has been forced to close due to Storm Arwen, just one day after it opened.

Brighton Christmas Festival announced that weather conditions had forced the closure of the market, St Peter's Pavilion, the Apres Ski lodge and Santa's Grotto.

Planned shows of The Elves Save Christmas, as well as a 6:30pm show of Bax: A Series Of Unexplainable Events and 8:00pm show of EuroVibes have been cancelled.

Ticket holders affected by the shows' cancellation are able to redeem their tickets for another other show respecitively and subject to availability without having to contact customer service or rebooking. Ticket holders will only need to come to a show of their choosing and bring their original ticket.

People affected are also able to request a full refund by emailing hello@brightonchristmasfestival.com until November 30.

Guests who missed their sessions with Santa can also rebook them for another date, subject to availability, or request a refund. People are advised to contact bookings@greatgrottos.co.uk for more information.

In a statement on Facebook, organisers apologised for any inconvienience and said they plan to reopen all parts of the festival from 11am tomorrow.

The closure comes just a day after the festival opened to the public, with EastEnders star Anita Dobson turning on lights in an official opening event yesterday evening.

The market, which has more than 80 stalls and attractions, will run until Friday, December 31.

The hand-built chalet stalls sell a variety of food and drink, arts and crafts, Christmas trees and souvenirs.

Three people across the UK have died as Storm Arwen brought wins of up to 100mph in parts of the country.
