A FUNDRAISER for a young doctor who was horrifically injured when her jealous ex-boyfriend dosed her in acid has reached half of its target.

Around £30,000 has been raised for Rym Alaoui, who continues to be treated for severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms following the callous attack in May.

Her family hope to raise £60,000 to help Rym, who was maimed by her former partner Milad Rouf, 25, who disguised himself as a woman before throwing sulphuric acid in her face.

Since launching the fundraiser on Friday, hundreds of people have donated to help the recovering doctor receive specialist treatment.

Following the horrific crime, she has been through multiple surgeries including including skin grafts to her neck and chest and operations on her eye.

Hundreds of donators have pledged their support, with dozens of tributes praising her bravery and spirit.

One said: "I'm so sorry to hear this has happened to you. I hope you have a swift recovery and can heal in time.

"You're an absolutely lovely person who I am so glad to have met."

Another added: "I was so sorry to hear what happened. I wish you a great recovery, be strong and keep faith."

A third said: "As a doctor, she has chosen the path in her life to wanting to help people and after all her and her family have been through, I’d like to help her back."

Rym ended her relationship with Rouf before moving to Brighton where she worked as a junior doctor at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Rouf knocked on her door in Steine Gardens at 4.20pm on May 20.

He showed his ex-girlfriend a note before throwing acid in her face as she looked down to read it.

She was taken from her flat to the Royal Sussex Hospital, less that 1 km away, where she was treated by colleagues.

Writing on Gofundme, Rym's sister Alya Alaoui said: "Her injuries have turned out to be more serious than we expected at the time, and the full treatment, unfortunately, cannot be offered only by the NHS.

"Rym has suffered severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms. She’s still unable to see out of her right eye. So far, she’s had 7 operations including skin grafts to her neck and chest, and operations to her eye.

"Her doctors have said that she'll need many more over the coming months and years.

"The cost of this all is estimated to be over £60,000. This includes a reconstruction of her neck, specialised laser therapy for scarring and surgical needling.

"I appreciate this is a really large sum of money, and I would be eternally grateful for anything you could give to help."

Rouf appeared at Lewes Crown Court in August and admitted carrying out the horrific attack on the doorstep of her Brighton flat.

He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and using sulphuric acid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or disable at an earlier hearing.

Rouf was sentenced to 11 years in custody with an extended sentence of another four years.
