PART of a major motorway has reopened following a crash in which a van driver was arrested.

The M23 southbound between junction 10, near Tinsley Green, and Junction 11 near Crawley, was closed this morning following a crash between a light goods vehicle and a car.

At 9.50am this morning, it was reported that an Audi and a van had crashed but National Highways has since confirmed that the road has reopened.

In a tweet, it said: “The scene is now clear and the road had reopened following the earlier collision.

“Thank you for your patience. Please have a safe onwards journey.”

The road was closed and officers from Sussex Police advised drivers to follow diversions.

Sussex Roads Police said the driver of the van has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

In a tweet, a spokesman said: “Fortunately – and surprisingly – nobody was injured as a result of this one.”

Pictures taken by National Highways showed a large amount of debris, including metal poles and wood, scattered across the road.

Recovery teams carried out a clean-up of the area.
