A POP-UP shop has opened selling products made exclusively by refugees.

A selection of artisanal products and accessories made by refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Mali and more are on offer at The Fair Shop in Dukes Lane, Brighton.

Organisers say the initiative allows festive shoppers to help refugees earn an income and gives an opportunity to rebuild their livelihoods.

The pop-up, which is run by MADE51 and The Fair Shop, will be open until December 23.

It will open between 11am and 5.30pm every day.

Among the products are cushion covers embroidered by Afghan refugee women in Pakistan and hand-dyed sisal grass baskets woven by Burundian refugee women in Rwanda.

The best-seller so far has been the MADE51 collection of 24 ornaments.

Organisers said each product carries a special meaning tied to its origin.

MADE51 is a sustainable supply chain providing local living wages to refugees through skilled trades.

Deputy high commissioner for the United Nations Refugee Agency Kelly Clements said: “Rather than viewing the millions of refugees across the globe as a burden, MADE51 sees untapped talent and potential that, if unlocked, can directly benefit displaced women, men, and children, as well as host communities and local businesses.”
