A FIRE in a residential building caused a major emergency service response.

Fire crews, police and ambulances were called to the blaze on the first floor of a property in Pelham Street, Brighton.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said all the residents of the flat were accounted for and there were no reports of any casualties.

The incident is believed to have been an “accidental” fire on the first floor, which began at 1.09pm on Friday.

Three fire engines and a fire officer were sent to the scene.

Sussex Police vehicles and multiple ambulances were also pictured at the scene.

By 2.30pm, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they had received a “stop message”, meaning firefighting action had stopped.

A resident of the property said there was "no further concern" after being let back inside the building.

However, fire crews remained on the scene for some time after the blaze.

Sussex Police were also approached for comment.
