Michael Wilkinson

The Argus:

Michael Wilkinson, from Bexhill, used connections he had made while backpacking in Asia to contact the family of a girl aged between nine and 12.

Images and a video were sent to him of the child in specific poses which he had ordered as part of the transaction.

The 36-year-old was first arrested in April 2020 when police received intelligence he was downloading indecent images of children.

After a search warrant was executed at his address, police realised the extent of Wilkinson’s offending.

Wilkinson, who worked as a decorator, was sentenced to six years in prison at Hove Crown Court after admitting to inciting and facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child under 13, making indecent images of children and possessing prohibited and extreme images.

He will be a registered sex offender for life and was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which severely restricts his access to children and digital devices for life.

Darren Alderton, 51, was bludgeoned to death with a stone by Seyed Iman Tabarhosseini.

The killer, 38, attempted to hide the murder weapon in the loft of the flat in Magdalen Road, St Leonards, before attempting to flee the country.

A post mortem examination found Mr Alderton died of blunt force trauma to the head, caused by the stone.

There were no signs of forced entry to the property, but CCTV inside showed Tabarhosseini, from Dover, in the flat on April 6 with blood on his clothing, wearing latex gloves and carrying the stone.

He was then captured on camera wearing different clothing, leaving the property carrying a dark rucksack and a camouflage bag for life.

On April 12, four days after Mr Alderton's body was discovered, Tabarhosseini was arrested in London.

After an 11-day trial at Lewes Crown Court, he was sentenced to a minimum tariff of 30 years.

Robin James Elms

The Argus: Robin James Elms Robin James Elms

Robin James Elms, 23, targeted a child with special needs during a campaign of abuse in private homes where he worked as a freelance nanny and babysitter.

He picked on children he thought were too young to speak up or who had learning difficulties and autism, grooming entire families in order to commit his abuse.

The trainee teacher pleaded guilty to 20 offences including ten counts of sexual assault, five counts of taking indecent videos of children and four counts of voyeurism against nine children aged between two and 14 between 2018 and 2020.

He also admitted one sexual assault on an adult man in West Sussex.

Elms, of Hunston, near Chichester was sentenced to 15 and a half years in prison with a five year extended prison licence.

Aaron Murray, 25, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison when he appeared at Hove Crown Court having previously admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin.

Murray, of Tideswell Close, Braintree, Essex, and another man, Kieron Dice, 19, of Antlers Hill in London, were tracked down in a joint operation by three police forces.

The pair were stopped in a car by Metropolitan Police officers in north east London in September 2020. In the car were mobile phones that were already linked by police intelligence work to the "rocky" county drugs line, which had been moving drugs from that area of London to Crawley for several months.

Gary Fenn used a dating website to get to know a woman and travelled to Southwick to meet her in June this year.

He used the opportunity to sexually assault her young daughter. The girl managed to escape the situation and informed her mother who then called the police.

Police investigated and arrested Fenn, they later charged him on the authority of the CPS. He has been in custody ever since his arrest.

The 50-year-old had been convicted of sexual assaulting the girl, who was under 13, and of two breaches of Sex Offender Registration Notification requirements.

Fenn, of Saxon Road, Saxmundham, Suffolk, was given a nine-year extended sentence, comprising five years imprisonment and four extended period on prison release licence.

Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith had been helping Joan Cannon, of St Leonards, in her quest to buy a property near her autistic son.

Between May 2018 and March 2019, Smith defrauded the elderly woman out of £160,000.

Instead of using the money to help complete the property purchase, Smith kept it and spent £13,950 on a new Mercedes and additional funds on a trip to Dubai, the court heard.

The 52-year-old, who was trading under Waves Estates in Rye, pleaded guilty on August 11 to fraud by abuse of position.

Smith, previously of Winchelsea Beach but now of Wilton Road, Bexhill, was sentenced to five-years and 14 days in prison at Hove Crown Court on November 2.

Kemar Maybury

The Argus:

Kemar Maybury targeted schools to exploit children, supplying them with drugs and using them to distribute them around Brighton.

The 40-year-old was arrested on March 11, 2020, after the mother of a 13-year-old girl, who was found to be a passenger in Maybury’s car, raised concerns about her welfare.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug and cultivating cannabis plants and denied the other two charges.

At Lewes Crown Court, Maybury was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug (cannabis) but a judge instructed the jury there was no case to answer in relation to taking a child without authority.

Maybury, of Dartmouth Crescent, Brighton, was sentenced to four years in jail.
