FURTHER residents have complained of the noise coming from a Christmas Festival, stating it is a "complete nightmare and we are sick of it already".

The area in front of St Peter's Church in Valley Gardens, Brighton, has become a live performance venue for various shows over the years.

The Ladyboys of Bangkok perform at that site every summer for six weeks and most recently it is hosting the EuroVibes tent for Brighton Christmas Festival, run by E3 Events.

Now, residents of the flats surrounding the area have had enough and have called the music that can be heard through their windows into the evening "maddening".

Meg is one of those residents, she said: "It isn’t even Christmas music - it is random Euro pop songs. The bass is so loud it rattles our windows. We have a Victorian flat and have to deal with single glazing and maddening noise. It’s constant."

Meg recorded a video on Saturday night last week of the music heard from her flat with all of the windows closed.

EuroVibes is described by organisers as "guaranteed to be the biggest boom bang a bang party in the city and will have you up on your feet singing and dancing to all your favourite Eurovision songs."

Shows are set to run from 8pm until 11pm.

One woman says that the noise from the performance space over the years has led her to move out of Brighton for good.

Amy said: "Me and my partner have lived in the area for the last few years and it’s got louder and louder each year, whenever there’s an event on in the space it tends to be quite loud all day and into the evenings, bearing in mind lots of the buildings nearby are old and single glazed.

"The newest Christmas market is the loudest yet and it’s definitely helped in our decision to move out of Brighton."

Brighton and Hove City Council reportedly gave Meg's partner a number for the event's sound engineers, and was told to call when the noise is too loud - although she has not been able to get through since the festival began.

Meg says that the noise is the worst on Fridays into the weekend and as a teacher she is not looking forward to the Christmas holidays.

She said: "The number I have called is apparently unavailable. I’m a school teacher and I dread coming home to the noise.

"I’m dreading the Christmas holidays with this constant racket when all I desperately need is rest. Complaints don’t seem to help and are never listened to properly.

"It is apparently very easy to ignore when you aren’t opposite it all day long. It is a complete nightmare and we are sick of it already."

Meg added: "We nearly went insane in May with the Ladyboys of Bangkok in the same area, three shows a day every day for six weeks.

"We have never been consulted about this apparent new performance space and it seems to be one thing after another."

The festival, including the EuroVibes shows, is running until December 31.

Both E3 Events and Brighton and Hove City Council have been contacted for comment.
