A SIGNALLING fault and lack of train staff is causing major disruptions on two railway routes.

Trains between Brighton and Cambridge are not running due to unavailability of train crew.

A Thameslink spokesman said: “Some cancellations are also possible to services between Horsham and Peterborough.”

Passengers have been recommended using Southern and Thameslink services between Brighton, Gatwick and London.

Tickets will be accepted on Southern Rail and Thameslink trains between those destinations, as well as Thameslink and Great Northern Rail trains between Kings Cross/St Pancras and Cambridge.

Meanwhile, trains to Seaford have been terminated and will restart at Newhaven Harbour due to the ongoing issues.

At 6.11am on Tuesday, Southern Rail announced at a fault with a signalling system meant that trains could not run between Newhaven Harbour and Seaford.

“This means that Seaford and Bishopstone station will not be served by trains,” a spokesman said.

Tickets to and from Seaford and Bishopstone can be used on Brighton and Hove Bus routes 12, 12A and 12X between Seaford, Newhaven and Brighton at no extra cost.

They can also be used on buses between Seaford and Brighton.

At 6.19am, a Southern Rail spokesman said: “Services to Seaford will terminate and restart at Newhaven Harbour.

“Buses have been requested and are expected to be in place by 08.30am. In the meantime, please use Brighton and Hove bus services between Seaford, Bishopstone and Newhaven.”

An hour and a half later, the spokesman said: “Engineers are preparing to run some trains on the line between Newhaven Harbour and Seaford.

“These trains will have to run at a slower speed than usual, so journey times will take around 10 minutes longer.”
