AN INCIDENT has caused railway delays.

Trains were unable to leave Eastbourne to travel through Hampden Park and onwards to Lewes, Hastings, Ore and Ashford International.

According to Southern Rail, the delay has been caused by an “operational incident” at Hampden Park.

At 11.55am on Saturday, a Southern Rail spokesman said delays of between 20 and 30 minutes are expected.

“We're working with our controllers and the driver of the affected train to get services back on the move,” he said.

“Please check journey planners and allow some extra time.”

Following the incident, passengers are able to use their tickets on Southeastern Railway between Hastings and London Bridge, as well as Brighton and Hove Buses between Brighton and Lewes/Eastbourne.

The affected train has now moved from Hampden Park.

“Our controllers will arrange for other trains to continue their journeys as soon as possible,” the spokesman added.
