THE INQUEST into the death of a 17-year-old mother who died after suffering a cardiac arrest after giving birth has been adjourned.

Teegan Barnard also suffered a bleed while giving birth to a baby boy by emergency caesarean at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.

She was left in a critical condition after the birth of Parker, stayed in hospital for more than two weeks, before dying at home.

The decision to adjourn was taken as the coroner wants to gather more expert evidence.

Speaking on behalf of Teegan's family, expert medical negligence lawyer at Irwin Mitchell Rebecca Brown said: "The last few days and listening to the evidence regarding the events that unfolded in the lead up to Teegan's death have been incredibly distressing for her family.

"Understandably they continue to be profoundly affected by her death in such tragic circumstances.

"All the family want is for no stone to be left unturned and the most thorough investigation into Teegan's death to take place.

"While this adjournment delays the family's wait for answers, they're pleased that the coroner is proceeding with obtaining more expert evidence to ensure all appropriate information has been considered before a conclusion is reached."

Teegan, a pizza chef, was admitted to hospital during the third trimester of her pregnancy in 2019.

She gave birth on September 9 and remained in hospital until September 26.

Teegan died at home in Havant in Hampshire on October 7.

Her parents are now bringing up her baby alongside his dad, Leon Forster.
