A STRETCH of the A27 is closed in both directions following a six-vehicle crash.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area following the collision near Firle on Thursday afternoon.

The road is closed in both directions between Lewes and Eastbourne, according to police.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the road “may not reopen for a while yet”.

“The A27 at Firle between Lewes and Eastbourne is currently closed both ways after a six-vehicle collision.

“Please avoid that stretch of road this afternoon Thursday, January 13, if at all possible.”

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 3.20pm.
