A MAN has been arrested after a 13 mile pursuit which ended in his car coming off the A27 last night.

Officers saw a Vauxhall Zafira speeding on Lewes Road in Brighton around 7pm last night, January 15, and signalled for the car to stop.

A pursuit ensued after the car failed to stop which continued for around 13 miles eastbound on the A27 past Lewes.

The car came off the road after Drusillas Roundabout near Polegate and the driver ran across fields but was caught by a dog unit.

The 29-year-old man from Battle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop when required by police.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “About 7pm on Saturday 15 January, officers on patrol in Lewes Road, Brighton, became aware of a Vauxhall Zafira travelling at excess speed.

“Officers indicated for the vehicle to stop, but it failed to do so.

“A pursuit continued onto the A27 past Lewes and towards Drusillas Roundabout, where the vehicle came to a stop.

“The driver decamped across fields but was detained shortly afterwards by the Dog Unit.

“A 29-year-old man from Battle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop when required by police. He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.”
