A MAN has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm in a city centre park.

Jeremiah Mensah, of no fixed address, was charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear and possession of cannabis.

Officers were called to The Level at around 1.40pm following reports of a man wielding a handgun.

The 22-year-old was arrested in Lewes Road less than 20 minutes later and a BB gun was seized.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident, particularly an individual at whom Mensah is believed to have pointed the firearm.
