A DEER has been rescued by the fire service after becoming tangled in football netting.

Teams from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to Scaynes Hill in Lindfield this afternoon, after receiving reports of a trapped deer.

Photos from the scene show the animal had netting tangled around his antlers.

The crew from the tactical rescue unit used small gear to get the deer back to his feet and set him free.

A spokesman for the service said: “Oh dear. This afternoon @WSFRS_TRU were called to rescue a deer in a spot of bother at Scaynes Hill.

“After getting tangled in football netting, the crew used small gear to get him back on his feet and free him. Great work.”
