A SEAFRONT hotel has closed its doors for more than three weeks to undergo “major electrical works”.

The Grand in Kings Road, Brighton, closed on January 17 and is not set to reopen until February 9.

The venue’s restaurants and bar, as well as its rooms, are all affected, with guests told they will not be able to make bookings during this period.

Andrew Mosley, general manager at The Grand, said staff are looking forward to welcoming guests back once the planned maintenance is finished.

He said: “The Grand is temporarily closed due to planned major electrical works and will reopen on February 9.

“No guests or staff will be permitted on site, therefore we will not be taking any bookings or opening for business during this time period.

“Guests will be able to make new reservations for stays from February 9 onwards and speak to staff about any future bookings they may already have.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to reopening our doors and welcoming back guests when this essential maintenance is complete.”

The landmark hotel has stood proudly on Brighton’s seafront since the mid-1800s and continues to attract visitors from across the globe.

In an exclusive interview with The Argus, crime writer Peter James revealed The Grand is his favourite place to visit for a coffee and a cake.

He said: “I do like The Grand hotel. I love the history of the place.

“They’ve got a lovely conservatory room where you can sit and have coffee and see the magnificent view of the sea.

“It’s got a special place in my heart – I just love it. It’s the grand old dame of Brighton in many ways.”

Last year, the hotel was recognised as one of the best places to work and was named as a top 20 hospitality company in the UK.

It was listed in the UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For in 2021.

The Grand was also on the list of the Top 20 Leisure and Hospitality Companies in the UK.

The hotel said both accolades were “made even more special” because of the challenges it faced during the coronavirus pandemic.
