BRIGHTON Pride has announced its first main stage headliner for this year’s festival.

Paloma Faith will close the annual celebration with a performance on the Sunday evening.

The Brit-Award winning singer will perform a full show including some of her best loved hits, such as Only Love Can Hurt Like This and Lullaby.

A spokesman for the event said:” Known for her artful pop theatricality and retro soul sound, British singer Paloma Faith has garnered both critical acclaim and chart success with her first 4 studio albums going double platinum.

“After numerous Brit nominations, she also won her first Brit Award for British female solo artist in 2015.

“Paloma is also not afraid to use her status as a public figure for good and, as an outspoken feminist, has spoken out on gender inequality in the media and music industry.

“She also revealed that she refers to her baby as “they” as she raises it in a gender-neutral environment away from what she believes as the harmful effects of “celebrity culture”.

Pride Bosses have also announced that Gorgon City will headline the festival’s Pride Dance Big Top tent on Saturday, August 6.

The electronic duo and Paloma are the first acts to be announced for this year’s festival, which takes place from Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7.

The festival is set to return in style this year with revellers urged to support the love, protest and unity theme.

This will celebrate the movements roots in protest and its continued fight for human rights across the globe.

The annual event usually attracts tens of thousands of people to Brighton and Hove and the city’s streets are filled with huge crowds.

Global singing stars including Mariah Carey and the Pussycat Dolls were set to play in Preston Park in 2021 for the 30th anniversary of the event.

Party-goers were encouraged to follow the theme of Fabuloso.

But they were left devastated when the celebrations were put on hold because of the coronavirus crisis.

In May last year, organisers announced that the festival was to be cancelled for a second year in a row due to the uncertainty over mass gatherings.

Pride was just one of many major events across the globe to be halted by the pandemic.
