A MAN has been arrested after being seen with a knife in public which required armed police and a police helicopter.
Police responded to reports of a man with a knife in Old London Road, Hastings, shortly after 3.10pm today.
A vehicle was tracked by officers with support from a National Police Air Service helicopter, and the man was later arrested in Clifton Road, Hastings on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in public. He remains in custody.
The Ridge in Hastings was closed by police around 4.15pm which caused traffic in the area.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Sussex Police were called to a report of a man with a knife in Old London Road, Hastings, shortly after 3.10pm on Thursday, January 27.
“A vehicle was tracked by officers with support from the National Police Air Service Helicopter, and a man was later arrested in Clifton Road, Hastings on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in public.
“He remains in custody at this time.”
