THOUSANDS of pounds raised for Sussex charities with Christmas tree collections.

Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club raised £8,500 for charity through the project.

40 Rotary Club volunteers, assisted by workers from Mishon Mackay, delivered 10,000 flyers to homes in Hove and Portslade, promoting a Christmas tree collection scheme.

More than 900 residents booked to have their trees collected on Thursday, 6 January by Jackson Waste Disposal Company, for a minumum of £5 – all donated to the charities.

Alex Mackay, managing director at Mishon Mackay, said: “What a great start to the year.

"We’re really please to support our friends at the Rotary Club and to help raise some money for local charities."

The money will be donated to organisations including Martlets Hospice, Sussex Homeless Support, and FareShare, who tackle food waste by redistributing food industry surplus.
