A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without charge as police believe the death of a woman is not suspicious.

A 79-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murdering the 55-year-old woman in Burgess Hill last week.

A murder investigation as launched after the woman was found dead at a house in Stonefield Way at about 10.15pm on Wednesday, January 26.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics who performed CPR, the woman, named locally as Emma Forrest, was pronounced dead.

On Monday, police announced the death was not believed to be suspicious.

“This follows an exhaustive police investigation and medical examination of the deceased,” a police spokesman said.

“A report will be prepared for the coroner.”

As a result, the 79-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without charge and will face no further police action.

Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to the address, where Mrs Forrest lived with her husband John Forrest, after concerns for were raised.

The arrested 79-year-old man from Burgess Hill was known to the woman.

He was released with strict bail conditions while the investigation continued over the weekend.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Durkin previously said: “Our thoughts remain with the friends and family of the woman at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our enquiries into this isolated incident are ongoing, and anyone with any information is urged to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Yelverton.”
