THE council must get back to work immediately

In voting not to return to work, this council is derelict in their duty to residents it is meant to serve.

Last week Greens and Labour voted to keep Hove Town Hall shut and restrict the attendance at council meetings to just 14 for the future.

How can the council properly represent the residents of the city with only 14 out of the 54 councillors allowed to attend meetings and Hove Town Hall shut with residents who are unable to access their services?

The council hasn't held a proper in-person meeting of its 54-member council for two years and the last two meetings were cancelled.

This has now gone on far too long and it has become obvious that these councillors simply do not want to go back to work and do the job they were elected to do and that they are doing everything they can to stay away. Have they even bothered to have their jabs like residents have?

The council is so far behind. There are 8,800 housing repairs needed and 284 empty homes waiting to be let and parking permits are not being issued properly but when residents call the phone rings out. They are so disillusioned with this council.

Residents are also fed up of the hypocrisy - the same councillors that tell residents that it is too dangerous for councillors to hold proper meetings are happy to fly off on planes and travel overseas and then post photos about it on social media.

The council has admitted that it is possible to hold full meetings at the town hall with social distancing.

It must get back to work now and start dealing with the backlog of work before the city sinks further.
