READERS of The Argus have given their views on the Lewes Road footbridge.

The main structure of the walkway in now complete, with only surface and lighting works still to come ahead of its opening in spring 2022.

Six final panels and two large steel beams were put in place last weekend, and residents have been reacting to today’s photographs of the structure via social media.

“Looks great, modern, and safe to cross,” said Melissa Ristagno.

Jim Dempsey added: “I like it, very trendy down there now! Keeps people in work, education and looks wicked. Why would you not approve?”

“Great and safe for those crossing the campus,” said Carlos Balmores.

Meanwhile, Nessa Croydon commented: “With all the tall buildings and now the walkway, it’s even darker. Feel sorry for the families at the back of these buildings. What a view.”

Similarly, Loz Jennings added: “Bloody eyesore and a waste of time and money.”

Responses have also been coming in via The Argus website, with one person commenting they believe the bridge will not be for “public use”, rather for the “ever-growing number of students that are taking over the town.”

Although there is enough space, one reader joked they hope double-decker buses have been made aware.
