AN UBER driver who suffered a broken nose after a racist attack from a customer is "not happy" with the investigation after police confirmed no arrest has been made yet.

Mansoor Ahmad faced a torrent of racist abuse and had his nose broken in three different places after a customer accused him of ripping them off on Christmas day.

The passengers wanted to stop off somewhere and he said they asked to add it as a stop, in line with Uber policy. After being called a “Paki” and “refugee” – Mansoor cancelled the trip and asked the customers to find another Uber.

He was punched twice outside his car in Bevendean Road, Brighton, and the three people - a man and two women - ran off. Mansoor’s ordeal left him scarred and “too scared” to leave the house after the incident.

Mansoor said his nose did not stop bleeding for two days after the incident and he would wake up with blood on his pillows.

Since then, Mansoor has returned to the city of Peshawar in Pakistan to be with family and meet his daughter for the first time since the pandemic. But the 32-year-old said he is “disappointed” with Sussex Police’s investigation so far which has led to no arrests, despite the attack happening over a month ago.

He said: “With the police, I’m not really happy at all. The officer told me she still hasn’t found the suspect and is working on it so I’m disappointed and disheartened because it should not be that difficult.

“They said they were going to contact Uber and Uber told me they would give all information to the police. But the police turn around and say ‘we didn’t find the suspect yet’.

“Uber has all the bank details of the person who booked the Uber, right? So I am just very disappointed and sad with that system because I don’t know what is going on and it feels like they can’t do anything about it.

“In a way, Brighton is a small city. The amount of police we have here, to find someone it should be easy.”

Sussex Police confirmed that “no arrest” had been made yet and encouraged anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Donna Ward, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: “We fully understand that ongoing investigations can be difficult times for victims as they wait for an outcome.

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and remain in regular contact with the victim to provide any updates.

“Although no arrest has been made at this time, we ask anyone with information which could help to contact us either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 839 of 25/12. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
