EIGHT fire appliances helped tackle a house fire.

Emergency services were called to the fire in a residential property in Vines Cross, Horam, at 9.52am on Wednesday, February 2.

Fire crews from Uckfield, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Pevensey and Crowborough attended the blaze.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the fire began in the thatched roof of the property.

Firefighters used foam, a main jet and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“We are aware that the electricity supply for nearby residents may be interrupted, and we are also asking nearby residents to close windows and doors as there is heavy smoke in the area,” the spokesman said.

By 3pm, the fire was under control.

“The incident has now been scaled down to two appliances,” the spokesman said.

“Nearby residents are still advised to keep windows and doors closed as there is still smoke in the area.”
