PART of a major carriageway has been closed as emergency services attend a crash.

The A259 is closed in both directions between the A27 near Pevensey and the B2095 near Hooe due to a “serious collision.”

Emergency services including Sussex Police are in attendance.

Drivers are being urged to find alternative routes and traffic is being diverted via local routes.

A spokesman for National Highways said: “Due to the severity of this incident, the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the afternoon.”

An AA traffic update said:"Road blocked and queueing traffic due to serious accident, a van and a cyclist involved on A259 both ways from A27 (Pevensey Roundabout) to Ninfield turn off.

"Originally reported as an accident involving a car. Affecting traffic between Pevensey and Bexhill."
