THERE are long delays on the A27 as construction on the major carriageway continues.
Drivers are facing two-mile-long tailbacks this afternoon on the A27 Lewes Road in both ways around the A270 at Stanmer Park.
The delays are due to National Highways performing drainage repairs and maintenance within the central reservation.
It means one lane is closed for 24 hours of the day for worker safety.
An AA traffic update said: “Queueing traffic for two miles on A27 Lewes Road both ways around A270 (Stanmer Park). In the construction area. There are lane closures in place.”
This stage of the work began on January 20 and is due to finish on February 14.
A spokesman for National Highways said: “We’ll be closing the eastbound A27 between the Patcham junction and the Falmer junction to install narrow lanes on the carriageway. Narrow lanes will allow us to work safely on the central reservation, while keeping all lanes open on the A27.
“The diversion route during the closure is via A23, A259, B2109, A26 and A27.”
