A NEW cheese and wine delicatessen is to open on Saturday.

Curds and Cases will be the latest addition to Worthing town centre. It is run by Brighton chef and restaurateur Phil Bartley and drinks expert Steve Pineau.

The pair said independent wine shops are lacking in Worthing and they wanted to bring something different to the area.

Phil has had an eye on the town for a while. He said: “We loved the idea of joining some of the really great food and drink businesses Worthing has to offer, including Pitch, Crabshack, The Whiskey Rooms, Macmillans, Bottle and Jug Dept, The Brookstead and many more.”

Phil has already made his mark on Sussex’s culinary and hospitality industry as a celebrated wine, cheese and charcuterie supplier.

He founded the The Great British Charcuterie in 2016 and has achieved great success. Its products can be found in dozens of eateries, markets and outlets around the county.

Steve has opened three successful bars since 2018, including l’Atelier du Vin, l’Atelier du Vin Seven Dials and, most recently, Hotel Una.

Curds and Cases is in the Montague Quarter in the heart of Worthing and a stone’s throw away from the seafront.

Phil and Steve said the "quaint and cosy" lounge area makes it a great spot to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine and take your pick from more than 100 different, locally sourced cheeses and charcuterie, available to eat in or take away.

There will also be an outside space "perfect for dining al fresco this spring and summer".

The delicatessen range will be provided by Phil and will showcase a variety of artisan British produce made by small producers across the UK.

A selection of hot foods will also be available, inspired by a traditional deli menu, such as stuffed pastries and croque monsieur.

The drinks range includes some 300 European wines selected by Steve, which can be enjoyed inside or taken away.

The pair said they want to build relationships with local people and suppliers while sharing their love of local, artisan products.

They currently own the wine bar and delicatessen Curds and Whey in Western Road, Hove.

The deli runs wine, cheese and charcuterie evenings and they hope to replicate this at the new location.
