A CARE home has been rated "good" by the official health and social care watchdog.

Swanborough House, part of Renovo Care, has been found to be good following its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The residential home, based in Brighton, provides care, accommodation, and rehabilitation for people with an acquired brain injury.

A care home is judged on its levels of care, responsiveness, safety, effectiveness, and leadership and incorporates comments from residents and their relatives.

The report found: "People received personalised care and support specific to their needs and preferences.

"As well as the need to keep people safe during the Covid-19 pandemic taking priority, the provider and staff had worked hard to develop good leadership.

"Quality monitoring systems had been embedded and morale was good amongst staff."

The home was praised for its rehabilitation care, with the inspector noting: "We saw examples whereby through rehabilitation work, people now mobilised independently, accessed the local community and were in the process of leaving the service in order to move home with their family."

The management and staff were highlighted for being "positive and inclusive" and they "spoke about people with care and compassion".

Comments from residents included: "They look after me well. I forget things and they always tell me what I need to do. I’m happy here."

Another said: "‘I’m happy. I’d like to be back home, but I need to be here and they help me."

Peter Kinsey, chief executive of Renovo Care, said: “This report is testament to the hard work of every single person at Swanborough House, and the wider supporting team at Renovo Care.

“A great deal of investment, both financial and in time, has gone into ensuring that residents receive the best possible care and support to enable them to achieve the very best outcomes.

“Across all our hospitals and care homes we are striving to reach these high standards and will continue to work to continually improve.”

The facilities at Swanborough House include 26 en-suite bedrooms and two flats with a communal bathroom and kitchen, with lift access.

It offers therapy and communal rooms, a games room, TV lounge and a quiet lounge.
